It might not count for much as an official verdict, but it’s somewhat telling that only 2 from a gathered 51 press scorecards favoured Canelo Alvarez as the victor in Saturday’s rematch against Gennady Golovkin.

As pointed out in a well-compiled Reddit post, the vast majority of reputable boxing journalists, websites and pundits leant toward Golovkin.  34 of the listed 51 sources had the Kazakh winning.

None of those had GGG ahead by a margin greater than 116-112, which goes to show how competitive the fight was as a whole.  15 of them had it even at six-rounds apiece.

Popular boxing scorecard app FightScore revealed that fans using the software compiled an average score of 116-113 to Golovkin, with over 1700 results put together.
