It would be something of a short turnaround for an elite boxer, but Canelo Alvarez may fight one more time in 2018.
His promoter has said that a December 15 date is open to the Mexican superstar, with David Lemieux listed as a potential opponent.
Alvarez’ return against Golovkin last week was his first outing of the year following a suspension, and it looks like his handlers are keen to keep him active with another pay-per-view headliner in either New York or Vegas. Should the event take place at Madison Square Garden, it’d be his first fight at the iconic venue.
De La Hoya said, “Canelo is coming off a tough fight. But that’s how disciplined and dedicated he is that he wants to fight again this year in December. [Lemieux] is definitely in the running, but nothing is for sure. Canelo wants to fight anybody.”
Regardless of opponent, there’s also the question of which TV network would air the bout, with the star’s HBO contract reportedly up.
