Well there’s a turn up for the books. A lesson to never underestimate any opponent and not look too far ahead.
Sam Eggington, hopeful of a big fight against Brandon Rios in just a fortnight’s time, had his senses scrambled tonight and was stopped by African Hassan Mwakinyo in just 2 wild rounds.
Eggington went off the boil late in the opener, and was cracked by Mwakinyo before the bell. The Birmingham light-middleweight tried to soldier on, but the hard-boiled Tanzanian cooked up a finish early in the second, relentlessly swinging until the referee stopped the bout and laid future plans to rest.
Mwakinyo looked to poach opportunity after by calling out Kell Brook ringside. We’d certainly like to see him on British soil again.
