The chief support on the Frisco card sees another fight that will ask questions of your prediction skills, as Kal Yafai puts both his unbeaten record and world super flyweight title on the line against the former pound for pound number one fighter Roman Gonzalez.
Yafai has now made five defences of his title since taking it from Luis Concepcion back in 2016, but fans have been clamouring for him to have a showdown with one of the stars of the division since then. In this fight he does, as Roman Gonzalez has previously hit all the heights as a lower weight superstar and four division champion.
His reign ended back in 2017 when he lost a very close fight to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, though any controversy was put to bed in a rematch that saw Gonazalez dispatched inside four fairly one sided rounds.
Since then there have been question marks over how much Gonzalez has left in the tank. He has had a turbulent time since stepping up to super flyweight as he had a tough fight with Carlos Cuadras before the Srisaket defeats but has also suffered from injury problems and the loss of his long term coach Arnulfo Obando.
He has however looked impressive in his two returns over Moises Fuentes and Diomel Diocus stopping each fighter in the fifth and second round of those respective bouts.
If there’s any life left at the top of the sport for Gonzalez we shall find out on Saturday.
Writer’s Pick: Roman Gonzalez KO
