Kosei Tanaka today won the WBO Flyweight title from Sho Kimura, with a tight majority decision win in Japan.
The 12 round battle was fought at a blistering pace, with both men visibly bruised after a tough fight.
Tanaka was the busier of the two and appeared to have a wider range of punches, while former champion Kimura kept a tight guard and landed the cleaner work inside.
Judges ruled the bout in now 12-0 Tanaka’s favour, with scores of 116-112 & 115-113 giving him the win. One card had it even at 114-114.
Victory gives Tanaka his 3rd world title at just 23 years of age.
